On May 12, 2011, the one year anniversary of the Charleston Promise Neighborhood incorporation, we held a reception on the Market Pavilion Hotel rooftop. The purpose of the event was to engage with our current donors, partners and volunteers, but also to introduce the organization to potential new friends and supporters CPN. The event was a tremendous success!
At the reception, we introduced a short video explaining the mission and purpose of the Charleston Promise Neighborhood. The video features CPN Board members, CCSD partners, and Community Engagement Council members talking about why support of the Charleston Promise Neighborhood is so crucial. It also shows footage of teachers and students from our four elementary schools and poignantly describes the challenges that many of the students in these schools could face without the support of the broader community to ensure that they succeed. Although our special event was an enjoyable time for all involved, we see it as much more than that. It is our goal to continuously inform our partners and supporters about what we are doing relative to our stated goals and objectives, and to continuously build support for the organization among the different constituencies who we touch. It was a distinct pleasure to see parents, teachers, our four elementary school principals, Community Engagement Council members, CPN Investors, business leaders, and government partners all present at the reception. All of us must work together if we are to achieve our goals and truly improve the lives of children in the Neighborhood. This event is only the beginning. We plan to continue to engage those donors and supporters in the business community who have stood behind us in saying improving education should be a priority in our community.
Over 200 guests attended the reception, the cost of which was fully covered by several gracious sponsors, most notably the Palassis Family Group and Market Pavilion Hotel which hosted the event.
